The 'Mayan Interpretations' series is a culmination of the search for challenging shapes, a Guatemalan Journey, and impressions from the book 'Masterpieces of Primitive Art, the Nelson A. Rockefeller Collection, Published by Alfred A. Knoph. Cia sketched Churches in Antigua, ancient city of Guatemala. She paid particular attention to the vast details common amongst the churches. Back in Santa fe she noticed a photograph in 'Masterpieces of Primitive Art'. A bird pendant made of gold, in the Veraguas style, from Panama. After a few tests in glass Cia found this to be her newest focus. Elodie Holmes at Liquid Light Glass was planning a Totem Show in mid 2008. As perfect timing goes, Cia, Elodie, and Jenean began making their respective pieces together. The details use bit work, meaning bits of hot glass are added on as layers, so the piece can become very intricate with three people working on one piece.
