Cia Friedrich is a professional glass artist who began her career at the California College of Arts and Crafts in northern California. She grew up in Santa Fe and returned after college to pursue her career as a glass sculptor. Group shows as well as collaborations with other artists began during the early days of Cia’s artistic life in Santa Fe. She was given a One-Woman show of blown figures in 95 by the Garland Gallery, only a year after a master glass blowing class with Pino Signoretto at Pilchuck. In 1997 Cia had a child and came back to glass as a full time artist in 2004. The latest work inspired by a trip to Guatemala, is called Mayan Interpretations. This work takes some of the technique from flame working glass called bit work, and simply put, applies it on a larger glass blowing scale.
